Wesak Day 2011
16 and 17 May 2011 Subang Jaya Buddhist Association, SS13
Wesak Day is celebrated by all Buddhists around the world during the full moon of the 5th or 6th Lunar month, which falls on May 17 this year. This widely celebrated day is to commemorate the Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away of Gautama Buddha, who has shown us the way to happiness through his teachings.
SJBA has also a line up of activities and programme which includes puja, blessings,Dhamma talk, offering of oil lamps, incense& flower, blood donation, organ pledging, free heath check, Buddhist film screening, charity bazaar and many more as devotees floods the temple on this day.
The SJBA Youth Section plays a supporting role for this celebration as we assisted in different areas which includes ushering, traffic control and setting up the Buddhist-themed movie screening room which was an attraction for adults and children alike. Besides that, we have also opened up a store selling materials to fulfill devotees’spiritual needs such as Dhamma Books, Movies,CDs, Buddha Rupa, T-shirts and many more.
Many of our SJBA Youth Section members were also present in the crowd joining in the various activities organised, from the procession on Wesak eve, to the lighting oil lamp and donating blood to help others on Wesak day. Despite the rain during the eve, the crowd turnout was still good and on top of that, this year we welcome the Menteri Besar Selangor together with YB Hannah Yeoh during our opening ceremony that vows to bring potential development for SJBA to expand its compound, in order to better serve the Buddhist community.
