As part of their mission towards cultural integration,‘Tarabuddy was striving to organise a session full of Indonesian traditional games with their local Kalyana Mitrasof SJBAYS, hence the taking place of Sport Anak Kampung at Sunway University College grounds. YS members had the chance to explore the games, guided by our IndonesianKalyana Mitras on a Saturday morning.
3 ‘warm-up’ games were played. Anak-Induk Ayam, was no stranger as it was also a game that we would have played when we were kids, more commonly known as the Fox And Hen game. The second one, Tikus dan Kucing, had members running around in circles; forming a human circle as a home-cum-trap, the mouse must not be caught by the cat. Kejar Patung is also another running game, similar to Statue Game where when one is chased he would shout “Patung!” and stands frozen before the chaser tags him, and waits for a free runner to ‘unfreeze’ him.
The main game Benteng requires 2 groups, where the objective is to conquer the opposition’s fort by gaining the team members as prisoners. Albeit a shaky start, it was soon easier once getting hold of the game to conquer prisoners. To cool of the hot sweaty day, Perang Saudara is a water game where water weapons of buckets, sponges and water balloons are tossed over a human wall that ensures the team members are not soaked. The winner is determined by the driest team members.
Even while playing in a small number of 10 members, everyone enjoyed themselves, had fun playing and fosteredstronger bonds through the games played.
