Buddhist Fellowship Futsal 2011

22 January 2011

Buddhist Fellowship Futsal 2011 with its cheeky tagline, “Because Buddhists Can Kick!” was indeed a successful event. What started off as a sports event to promote the true spirit of sportsmanship amongst Buddhists’ organisations; ended with friendship made across borders.

Eight Buddhist youth organisations namely: Bandar Utama Buddhist Society, Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School, Dhammaduta Youth (D2Y), Buddhist Gem Fellowship (Incovar), Lumbini Garden Youth Buddhist Section, Singapore Buddhist Mission (Youth), SMK Seafield Buddhist Fellowship and SJBAYS gathered at deStadium, USJ19 on 22 January 2011 to compete for the champions title. Family members and members from the Buddhist organisations came in full force to support their respective team.  It was overwhelming to have youths from different societies, age group, ethnicity and even countries coming together to compete for the title. It is without a shadow of doubt that many new friendships were carved along the way.

Bro. Chim, President of SJBA officiate the tournament by scoring the first kick. There was also an exhibition match between the SJBA and the SJBAYS. SJBA won the match with 2-0, both goals was scored by Bro Simon Tan.

After all the sweat and cheer, SJBAYS team 1 emerged as Champions; winning against Lumbini Garden Youth Buddhist Section with the final score of 2-1. The bronze medal went to Incovar defeating Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School, 2-1. And, as the tournament will not be completed without the presence of screaming cheers, supporters of D2Y was voted for the title ‘Most Enthusiastic Cheer Team’.
